Today, multi-disciplinary artist Manni Dee announces a double drop of two collaboratively-produced tracks with high-voltage vocalist Akiko Haruna and luminary producer Safety Trance (aka Cardopusher), “Frowzy / Vapours” is out on 15th August via Manni Dee’s imprint, Silk & Steel.
The opening track “Frowzy” features a hard-hitting combination of drill percussion and club reverberations, with lyrical reflections on frustration, growth, change and resilience carried through at their most personal. The collaborative efforts of Manni Dee and Akiko results in the melding of Hip-Hop’s dark drive into today’s hyper-maximalist inflections, countered by an unsettling element of piercing imperfection that collides with current pop production styles. Manni Dee says once he sent Haruna the instrumental, “Akiko went away & took the track to another level. I get tears in my eyes a lot of the time when listening to the track.” The second track, “Vapours”, with legendary producer Safety Trance, rings with reggaeton-inflicted trap beats, ready to tear up future dancefloors.
“Frowzy / Vapours” continues on from Manni Dee’s “Pillow Princess Remixes” EP earlier this year, to which Akiko Haruna and Safety Trance both contributed. Evolving beyond techno productions from his early career, these two new singles defy expectations for Manni Dee, combining more experimental pop with trap and reggaeton, striking out from preconceived notions of who he is as an artist.
